The Solid State technology is evolving fast and memory manufacturer OCZ is one making this happen. Earlier it put all emphasis on internal SSDs, but after the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard was presented it looks like it is time to take a swing at the external market. Pictures and information on OCZ’s first external Solid State Drive with USB 3.0 support for extreme transfer rates outside the computer.

We don’t know exactly what kind of SSD technology is being used here, but what we do know is that OCZ will show a ready model at CES in January.

We would bet on an external version of perhaps even the new SandForce SSD lineup. Since the unit is said to be a prototype it does seem plausible that it belongs to the new SandForce assortment, that will premier at CES.
