OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition was launched a few weeks back and they are the first modules we’ve seen using a hybrid cooling. OCZ have namely fitted the modules with a specially designed heatspreader which can also act as a water block. You can choose to run the modules passively and rely on regular air cooling, or you can connect the modules to a water cooling system for really efficient cooling. At Anandtech they’ve now published a review of OCZ’s new memory modules and even if they have only tested the modules on air the results are impressive. Or what should one say about DDR2-1300 frequencies with NVIDIA’s nForce 680i SLI platform?
We’re still waiting for the first tests where PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition and its heatspreader are used with water cooling, even more now that we’ve seen these promising results. The price of OCZ’s modules are currently about 490 USD for a 2GB kit. If this is the optimal choice for overclockers and enthusiasts remains to be seen, but it certainly seems promising for those who are looking for high frequency memories.
