OCZ is moving forward with its SSD series and beside the new SandForce-based Vertex 2 lineup it has shown some new PCI Express Z-Drives. OCZ’s new flagship, Z-Drive P88 looks to be something extreme with read and write speed of 1.3GB/s and 1.2GB/s respectively. Around 65% faster than the currently fastest Z-Drive. That’s not all though.
OCZ Z-Drive P88 is namely upgradeable. The drive uses several MLC NAND flash memory modules that like RAM is replaceable. This makes it possible to replace damaged flash circuit but also upgrade the memory circuit when new and faster models become available.
Four Indilinx SSD controllers keep performance at its best and to meet the high transfer rates OCZ uses the PCI Express x8 interface. When Z-Drive P88 will launch is uncertain, but the drive is targeted for businesses and with storage capacities of 512GB, 1TB and 2TB it is probably for the best we don’t know the prices.
